An Acupuncturist has gone to school specifically to study acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in a three to four year program  that includes training in the classroom on theory and clinical practice under the supervision of an experienced acupuncturist.  Florida has an acupuncture board that reviews each applicants education and training before granting them a license to practice.  This includes passing the national exam administered by NCCAOM.  Each licensee is required to complete continuing education requirements every 2 years. There are other professions such as chiropractors and MD's who may practice without having all of these qualifications.  It is important to use the best qualified person for your health care.
